Our Brief History
The Central Auckland Church of Christ history goes back to the 19th Century Restoration Movement which in time produced the Churches of Christ. The focus of the Churches of Christ included the goal of restoring the first century, New Testament church rather than just reforming the Church.
In June 1979 an offshoot from the Churches of Christ formed called the International Churches of Christ (ICOC) with a renewed focus on Discipleship and Evangelism. The ICOC grew rapidly around the world. The Central Auckland Church of Christ was planted in 1990 by a number of overseas Christians / Disciples, some of whom were born in New Zealand.
Since then the Central Auckland Church of Christ has grown in number and maturity over the years and has also been self governing for a number of years. We encourage a “healthy interdependence” as we seek to maintain relationships with our historical Churches in many countries overseas, as well as with other Christian Churches in New Zealand.
